In 2012, I was a resident at the Apothiki Art Center on the Greek island of Paros. During my stay there, I attended a lecture by Euphrosyne Doxiadis about the ancient Egyptian Fayum Portraits. These old paintings inspired me to make twelve clay portraits. I tried to bring back to life the characters represented in these 2000-year old paintings. From the sculptures, I then took photographs, which I later coloured and then printed onto wooden boards.
